Pac-10 set to ban cheerleading stunts

So much for my hiatus; this has me riled up.

According to multiple reports, the Pac-10 Conference is set to ban cheerleading stunts that would require both feet to leave the ground.

If you want to make it safer, perhaps you could put out some padded mats during halftime or something? How about uniformed safety observers who ensure nothing goes wrong? Something that could save the sport? Instead, we have a bunch of fat cats thinking they know what's best for us.

I'm not exactly the most rowdy fan of UA sports or the biggest fan of cheerleading, but there is something special about putting yourself out on the line and having to place special trust in your teammates to keep you from injury. The students who put themselves out there for the team deserve our respect and support.

Update (August 1st): They've done it, but it looks less stringent. Interpretation help requested.

That is the stupidest thing i have ever heard!!I am a cheerleader and there is no way to do a stunt if both feet cant leave the floor!!!

I agree. I cheer at one of the pac 10 univesities and this is ridiculous. I am going to the school i am not BECAUSE i wanted to cheer there. They know nothing about cheer and didn't even try to compromise or think up any safety precautions. it is absolutely ridiculous

I mean i am going to the school i am because i wanted to cheer there. if they gound our team it would be a waste for me

that i sooooo stuped!!!

OMG!!! Thats so effin crazy! I am a cheerleader and i think thats totaly NOT a good idea!!!
